Birkby House | Leesburg, VA | Gray and White Wedding
You may remember Rachel and Matt's Sunrise Engagement Session in DC. It was a magical, yet freezing morning among the Monuments. The color in the sunrise was incredible! Well, let me tell you that so was their Wedding Day! The Wedding was at The Birkby House in Leesburg, Virginia. The weather hinted at rain and they decided to just chance it with the outdoor ceremony and guess what. It only SPRINKLED towards the end. All our outdoor pictures and Cocktail Hour had happened before it started to really come down. By that point everyone was under the tent having dinner so the rain didn't matter as much. It did help to cool off the day, but the tent was also cooled with big fans and cool air was not a problem. Flowers were provided by Wedding Muse and the cake by Honey Bee Pastries.
Getting Ready is always an interesting time of nerves mixed with excitement all around. Everyone deals with these feelings differently. These two were incredibly cool, calm, and collected. The Groom and Groomsmen were a little later getting to the venue, but Rachel didn't bat an eye. And when Matt arrived he looked sharp.
Matt gave Rachel a pair of diamond earrings and a sweet note and Rachel gave Matt a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label that was shared with his Groomsmen. Toasts were given and handshakes and hugs were readily shared.
Final touches to hair and makeup were being done in the Bridal Suite by Jamie D'Agostino Makeup Artistry. Rachel just glowed with each passing moment. This dress, the light, and being surrounded by her friends just brought out her glow even more.
The First Look can be a time when all nervousness can be set aside and the enjoyment of the day can begin. I asked Matt how he was doing and whether he was going to cry. He admitted that he probably would. So I knew I had to get lots of shots of their first moment seeing each other. When the Grooms or the Fathers giving toasts cry...I lose it!
Their moment was definitely special. She gracefully walked out to meet him and he waited for her gentle tap on the shoulder. His anticipation was fulfilled when he saw her and just melted. She was so surprised that he was completely overcome. She laughed and they embraced. Laughter is infectious with these two. Some inside jokes were shared and she wiped away his tears. They commiserated about what had already gone wrong or right that day and waved to some family and friends that had been watching the whole thing go down.
The Birkby House has a beautiful backdrop for an outdoor ceremony. A paved patio that connects the House all the way to the Reception Tent. Guests waited eagerly as the Bridal Party made their entrance. The Ring bearers carried funny signs and the Flower Girls enjoyed being the center of attention. When Rachel walked down the aisle, Matt couldn't help but beam with pride. All their nervousness was taken care of at the First Look and he was ready. The Officiant made some jokes about them being a "House Divided". There's fierce competition in their house when the Washington Redskins play the Dallas Cowboys.
Let's get this party started! Guests moved into the Reception Tent that was lit by 2 amazing chandeliers. Rachel and Matt were announced as they entered and kicked off the party with their First Dance. Lots of special moments between Rachel and her Father and Matt and his Mother during their dances as well. More laughs and tears during the Toasts. I will admit that I got choked up and I just met most of this family that day. It's incredible how much love can be in one place at one time.
Before the night ended I asked Rachel and Matt to follow me to the Gazebo that she wanted portraits at earlier in the day, but we had to scrap it. I surprised her by lighting it and only took them away from the party for about 4 minutes. It literally took longer walking to the location then I spent shooting it.
Bouquet Toss and Garter Toss and then the night was over. They had a SPARKLER exit! Rachel and Matt danced and celebrated all the way through it.
Congratulations Rachel and Matt! It was an absolute pleasure working with both of you! I wish you both all the happiness in the world! Especially during Football Season! (Go COWBOYS! Sorry Rachel!)
